US festival to host two Iranian docs

Two Iranian documentaries to be featured at US film festival.

Two Iranian documentaries are on schedule to be screened at the Maine International Film Festival’s 22nd annual event.

‘The Wind’ directed by Hamid Jafari and ‘Waterfolks’ directed by Azadeh Bizargiti are both set to be featured as part of the festival’s “Wind, Water, and Music: Ethnographic Iran” screening.

‘The Wind’ is a 51-minute depiction of the Zar ritual in southern Iran and the mysteries surrounding the ceremonies.

‘Waterfolks’ is a 30-minute journey into the life of a southern Iranian fisherwoman in the Persian Gulf, who heads for the Gulf everyday in order to fish and provide for her family.

The Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) is a 10-day event showcasing 100 premiere releases of American independent and international cinema, along with workshops, exhibitions, and performances.

During the course of the event, MIFF’s audiences have an opportunity to connect with filmmakers, actors, and musicians participating at the event from around the world.

The festival is scheduled for July 12-21 in the US city of Waterville, Maine.
